31 Thoughts for a Happy Holiday Season

An Excerpt from The Childbearing Woman: Pregnancy, Childbirth, Nursing, and Motherhood by Tiffany Tyndall — The Entirety of D.10. A Mother’s Needs

I think if I tried, I could make this list pretty long.  Mothers needs all sorts of things, from hugs to back rubs to a good candy bar.  But I think I’m just going to make this a list of one item.

Here is what a mother needs: her God.

Yes, a mother needs a strong support system, but not all women have this.  A mother needs others to show her compassion and love, but not all women have this.  A mother needs time to herself and time to rest, but it’s not always possible to have these things either.  Above all, if a mother ever hopes to survive the life of motherhood, she’s going to have to recognize her need for God above all other needs.  And then receive him fully, listening to him and following his beckoning.

The Lord develops our faith, and he teaches us how to be more like him.  He gives us hope and a future.  We have nothing to fear and no reason to fret.  We can trust him to take care of us.  He’ll make sure that everything we’ve been denied is not for nothing.  Those tears we cry when we can’t take anymore don’t go unnoticed.  Believe that our God will help you.  Because he will.  We are not alone in this.
