Our Happy Ending Starts Now

An Excerpt from The Joyful Life: Enjoying the Journey of Living by Tiffany Tyndall — The Entirety of 2.1 Why is joy even important?

Joy is the difference between despairing and hoping, between giving up and holding on.  Joy gives us a reason to keep going, and it supplies us with strength for the moment and in the moments to come.  Joy lifts the heaviness of depression off of our lives, and it lightens the load of our responsibilities.  Joy creates in us a solid core of stability, and it anchors us in times of trouble.

Without joy, life is meaningless.  Days become boring, oppressive, or both.  Idleness, conflict, or both overtake us, and we fill the emptiness in our life and comfort our wounds with other false forms of joy.  Before long, we forget what it’s like to sincerely smile or laugh, and we find ourselves content with the status quo, no matter how dark it is.

Joy is important because it’s a rarity in this life.  It can only be found in Jesus, and those who have Jesus have joy (whether they express that joy or allow God to grow it in their lives is another issue).  Joy propels us forward so that we don’t slump back into lazy, sloppy, unproductive, wasteful, hurtful lifestyles.

Most importantly, joy is the mark on our lives that we serve the Lord, with a fully trusting heart.  Joy allows our witness to others to be effective, with or without using words.  Joy is what attracts others to God, and it is the driving force behind why we, ourselves, stick with God.  Joy makes us powerful and victorious.  We cannot be defeated in any way, no matter what comes our way, when we have joy.
