You Can Do It

An Excerpt from How to Disengage from a Highly Stressful Environment by Tiffany Tyndall — 43: Increase your understanding and then exercise it

Increase your understanding and then exercise it.

Whether you are dealing with students, spouses, children, parents, colleagues, neighbors, all of the above or another group of people entirely, what helps us to separate from the stress of the moment is to seek to understand life from another person’s perspective.

As the situation calls for it, allow yourself to be heard and understood as well—but remember to make use of your increased empathy so that the tensions of the moment are eased in such a way that you can continue to think clearly and so that the problem at hand can be effectively and fairly solved.
