31 Thoughts for a Happy Holiday Season

Let Regular Guilt Do Its Work

Guilt has a purpose.  Which is to point us in a better direction.  It’s to help us know what is right and what is wrong.  The healthy kind (in regular amounts—not regular as in often and over time but regular as in true, real, not excessive, not manufactured, and not out of a purpose to manipulate) of guilt does its best work in parenting when our issues (as parents and individual people) and hang ups and trip ups do not interfere (or at most interfere at a bare minimum) with the process of normal guilt doing its normal work and having its normal effect (which is to bring about better choices, better behavior, and real and lasting change for the better).
