This is the aim: to be the good and loving parent we want to be, all the time, whatever the circumstance. That what we appear to be is what we actually are. That we don’t have to pretend to be kind and patient. That we genuinely possess and utilize well the skills relating to authentic kindness and patience. This is certainly a lifetime-length of an aspiration. But it keeps everything in perspective. We will slip up, but we don’t have to be bound by our mistakes. We can continue to make strides towards a pursuit-worthy endeavor. Duplicity has no place in an honest relationship with our children. Be only one way with them. Fair, consistent, respectable, self-controlled, peace-making, warm, and accepting.
