When we allow ourselves to carry more than we are meant to, we can’t function the way we’re supposed to. We sure learn how to adjust to the extra load, but this will keep us from truly enjoying our own life (resentment starts to grow if/as we neglect carrying what’s only ours to carry or if we attempt to continue to carry all of what’s ours and what’s someone else’s). And remember: one of the most important gifts we can give our children is to enjoy our own lives. Our happiness—which is a true happiness rooted in loving-kindness and right-living and uplifting words and choices well-made and wrongs made right with amends in place—is a most helpful teacher to our children because it doesn’t require any words. Something wonderful emanates from our life. And our children (and everyone around us) picks up on that. So let’s do what we have to do to get to happy—which will mostly likely include letting go of something that isn’t ours to carry. Then we can flow!
