It’s so easy to do—give a snap reaction to everything. But it’s wise to wait even just one second before we go down that road. We are trying to grow a longer fuse here, and the way to do that is to become more aware of how quickly we react to things (and don’t need to). Put some space in between things that happen and our reaction to them. We might have to wait 100 seconds before responding to things, but so be it. We are going for thoughtful response more-so than mindless reaction. If we can learn to simply wait for a moment before responding to anything, then we will find that we will be more in control of what we say and do and how we go about saying and doing it.
