Keep Things Right

Find the steady plane and stay there.  If we’re always up and down and up and down, it makes it so much harder (for us and for our children) to navigate the day.  You already know how you need to be.  You already know what makes a good parent.  You already know how to contribute to your child’s well-being and happiness.  You already know what you need to do.  You already know what your child needs for flourishment.  So just do it and be it.  Make up your mind to keep things right.  Yes, it will cost us our comfort at times (because who doesn’t like to just curl up and keep to yourself without having to be “on” all the time for the sake of others?).  But it is a price that is completely worth it.  And we know this.  Our joy in parenting is found here—when we give generously of ourselves even when we don’t want to.  And why do we do this?  Because we know that it is the best path.  And we belong on it—and our children belong on it.
